MICRO-GRIDS

The national and state electricity grids, are a system of poles and wires used to transmit and distribute electricity generated from coal or gas power stations, hydroelectric, wind farms, solar and other generating sources around the country, to the end user.

A microgrid is a similar system that works within the confines of the home, business or industry distributing electricity generated from various sources within the home or business. These sources can include electricity from the grid, from solar panels, small wind turbines, small generators and energy storage units. These sources are managed by a sophisticated controller which selects the lowest cost electricity at any given point in time, switching between them to optimize keeping the electricity bill down.

It is possible using the Global NRG Economizer microgrid and our small gas generator to be able to completely remove the home or business  from the electricity grid, not only cutting the cost of electricity needed to power the home or business, but also reducing taxes and avoiding the power supply charge levied by the electricity retailers. When the home is removed from the main grid it is unlikely ever to again suffer a power blackout or power outage.

How the NRG Economizer Microgrid system works

The principle behind the NRG Economizer microgrid is quite simple.

Off-peak electricity or electricity generated by solar panels during the day or a micro wind turbine is stored in an ESU (Energy Storage Unit made up of a battery pack) so that it can be used at a later time when it is needed such as the evening, thereby avoiding the cost of using peak rate electricity from the grid. The savings from using this stored energy can be very substantial against using peak power.

By adding a small biogas generator it becomes unnecessary to even take any power from the grid at all, and the home can be completely removed from the grid, saving taxes and supply charges and reducing the annual electricity bill to a mere few hundred dollars.

The heart of the patented Global NRG Economizer system is its patented GREEN  STORAGE UNIT capable of holding up to 40 KWh of stored energy. This unit is a completely new technology involving silicone, and is able to store enough electricity to fully power the home if necessary all day.  With an NRG Economizer installed there will never be a power outage or blackout even in times of floods, cyclones or power spikes. There are various ways of configuring the NRG Economizer microgrid and recharging its energy storage unit.  

The Steps:

1. The electricity generated by the solar panels, micro wind turbines, gas generator or off-peak electricity is stored in the ESU so that it can be used at any time later.

2. When the ESU is fully charged or above 70%, the controller unit will direct the power supply for the home or business to be drawn from the ESU.

3. When 35% of the energy stored in the ESU has been consumed the controller will automatically switch the power supply to either the grid or if installed the biogas generator. This prolongs the life of the ESU, which will last up to 11 years depending on the settings. Normally a microgrid will pay for itself within 2 to 2.5 years. The annual ROI after paying down the microgrid storage cost is generally 25.5% to 38% per annum. If a micro biogas generator is installed the ROI will be upn to 92%

3. If solar panels or a small wind generator are installed and they are generating sufficient electricity, the home or small business will draw its power supply from this source via the ESU. If neither solar panels or a small wind generator is installed in the microgrid, then the ESU will be recharged from the grid using off-peak power, which because it sells at half price, will cut the electricity bill be 50% or if a fuel cell or biogas generator is used to recharge the ESU the cost of electricity will drop to on average 7cents/KWh.

5. As long as there is sufficient power in the ESU i.e. above 70% of its charge, the microgrid controller will always select to use the power supply from the ESU ensuring that the cheapest electricity is being consumed.
